The Food Access and Support Services Team (FASST), a coalition of food services providers, and including Moveable Feast, Benefits Data Trust, and the Maryland Food Bank, and led by Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland has achieved a significant milestone. With grant-based support from the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), FASST aims to close the health equity gap in underserved communities by providing nutrition services to the most vulnerable, high-risk patients. After 15 months of development and testing of the model, we are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the first quarter of service delivery. Notably, Meals on Wheels served a total of 2,088 meals to clients within the quarter. Project-wide efforts for UMMS-referred patients resulted in the distribution of 3,718 meals, 208 food boxes, and the completion of 39 applications for SNAP or Energy Assistance to 182 participants.
