Sallie M. is 73 years old and currently lives in Anne Arundel County. She is originally from South Carolina but has lived in Maryland for more than 30 years. She is witty and positive, always ready to laugh and share stories. Sallie struggles with her vision, making it impossible to drive and difficult to read. Sallie has a wonderfully giving spirit, caring for aging relatives throughout her life.
She has carried this spirit into her later years, always ready to help out her neighbors and friends when they are in need. Though she is homebound, Sallie remains busy by watching her favorite show Jeopardy (she was a long-time fan of Alex Trebek), listening to books on CD, and looking after her 11-year-old chihuahua, Peanut, who enjoys, “treats, barking, and taking naps.”
Sallie first found out about Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland (MOWCM) from her son who learned about our services on our website. Sallie called on a Tuesday, and by Thursday of the same week she received her first delivery. Sallie loves her volunteers and looks forward to each time they stop by to deliver.
When asked about the food, Sallie says “I love that the meals are low in sodium. Many of the dishes remind me of when I used to live in South Carolina… they are yum, yum, yum.” Before Sallie started receiving meals from MOWCM, she experienced a severe burn from bacon grease that resulted from her poor vision. Now, Sallie is incredibly relieved that she no longer has to cook and risk injury to herself.
She believes that she, “couldn’t ask for anything better” and finds the entire service, “fantastic.” Sallie tells everyone she knows about the amazing experience she has had with MOWCM. If you or a loved one are
