Ms. Elizabeth is 92-years old and full of stories from a life well-lived. Once vibrant and energetic, her stamina has declined over the years. Today, simple tasks such as standing for long periods or preparing meals are no longer manageable.
But in 2023, things changed that revived her spirit.
One afternoon, while flipping through television channels, Ms. Elizabeth happened to see a Meals on Wheels commercial. She listened closely, dialed the number on the screen, and within days, the quiet rhythm of her life gained a new beat—a knock on the door, a warm smile, a meal prepared with care.
Though her stamina has declined and preparing meals is too difficult now, Ms. Elizabeth’s spirit remains bright.
She now looks forward to the simple joy of meal deliveries. The warm food she relies on is essential – but just as meaningful are the daily conversations, the laughter, and a simple moment shared with another human being is the bonus that softens her solitude.
“I see the volunteers out of my window and look forward not only to the good meals, but also the engaging conversations,” says Ms. Elizabeth.
Though she has no pets of her own, Ms. Elizabeth adores the ones belonging to her neighbors. On days when the weather is nice and her body cooperates, she carefully positions herself behind her walker and slowly makes her way outside where the neighborhood dogs greet her like a friend, tails thumping, noses nudging. But during the long cold winter months, Ms. Elizabeth simply cannot risk it. Her health and safety are too important.
Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff will continue to bring nutritious meals to neighbors like Ms. Elizabeth and offer the sense of comfort and security that comes with knowing they are not alone.
